Root user a wise choice to run Lightmeter?

I was playing with the thought to use another less privileged user like syslog, that owns the logfiles that Lightmeter is reading. What is normal practice among LM users?

Hey and welcome @com2 :wave::slightly_smiling_face:

I think there are some docs on that; perhaps you know from memory @leandrosansilva ?

hi @com2,

It’s not recommended to use lightmeter as root. Instead, you should run it as any user with read access to the postfix log files, in case you are using them, and able to listen to the tcp/8080 port. In case you are receiving the logs via tcp or unix socket, you need to be able to listen on the socket’s port or create the socket file.

Please let us know if you need have any extra questions.

OK, that confirms it. Thank you!
