The Basecamp guys are gestating an email product https://hey.com. Just another mail client, or a centralised new comms stack? We’ll find out in April when it launches.
According to Luke via Mailop, it’s likely to be a mail client and inbox provider combined, with tracking pixels blocked, and some new kind of spam blocking.
To me this sounds like a pipe dream – spam filtering is already hyper-aggressive at the large inbox-providers, and blocking tracking pixels would make the product enemy #1 of a wide range of companies, and likely to get them penalised one way or another.
A beautiful new mail client with some as-yet unimagined feaures would be great though. The Basecamp company has a reputation as having some of the best product teams in the world.
